"Multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Jherek Bischoff is the missing link between the sombre undertones of Ennio Morricone and the unpredictability of John Cale" -- NME
"Young & Lovely" is the first song to be released from COMPOSED, Jherek Bischoff's forthcoming debut solo album, which will be out at the end of May (UK/Europe) and early June (North America + ROW). The song features Jherek's long time musical partner, Zac Pennington (Parenthetical Girls) and acclaimed French singer/actor Soko.
This song will be released as a limited edition 7" single on Record Store Day on April 21. The flip side of the 7" features "Eyes," a collaboration with David Byrne (yes, that David Byrne). It comes in a full color die-cut sleeve and note that when we say limited we mean it. 500 copies will be available in the US via Brassland; 500 more will be available in the UK via The Leaf Label. This song will not be released digitally.
The premiere of this song comes in the aftermath of Jherek's sold out New York show at Merkin Hall in early February, where he performed with the Wordless Music Orchestra and an all-star cast of collaborators including David Byrne, Mirah, Craig Wedren (Shudder to Think), Zac Pennington (Parenthetical Girls), Carla Bozulich and Greg Saunier, all of whom are featured guests on COMPOSED. Here's some pictures of that amazing night:

This project was informed by Jherek's history of playing in DIY bands, a fervent desire to make great pop music and a love affair with the potential of the orchestra. Though he claims only an amateur's compositional ability, it's no understatement to say that as an orchestral recording COMPOSED is quite unique.
Do It Yourself in the purest sense, he composed, produced, engineered and mastered the LP - recorded in its entirety with a single microphone and a laptop. Yet sonically, the final product is consistently rewarding, following Jherek's quirky vision while showing a deep familiarity with a catalog of compositional ideas & technique.
Based in Seattle, Bischoff is equal parts songwriter, producer, performer and film score composer. In his 30 odd years, he has played in numerous bands and musical configurations. Once and future collaborators include Parenthetical Girls, Xiu Xiu, The Degenerate Art Ensemble, The Dead Science and Amanda "F**king" Palmer.
